Evansville Otters News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN - The first place Evansville Otters defeated the Florence Freedom 8-6 on Friday night at Bosse Field. Evansville opened up the scoring in the first inning thanks to a roped double by right fielder, Dane Phillips, with a runner on second base. The Otters would tack on another run in the second, and lead comfortably until the fourth inning. Florence rallied in the fourth following back-to-back walks and a lead changing homerun to make the game 3-2. Remarkably, the homer was only the 2nd hit mustered by the Freedom to that point of the game. The Otters would quickly answer back in the fifth when a parade of four hits helped the team pullout a 5-3 lead. Florence would score in the sixth as well, but Evansville's march to victory could not be stopped as the home team scored three more runs in the bottom half of the sixth. The scoring was highlighted by a three-run homerun by shortstop, Rolando Gomez, who finished the game 3-4 with 3 RBIs, a walk, and two stolen bases. The Otters would lead the rest of the game, however, Florence was able to keep the contest close when the team was able to produce a walk and three hits in the seventh to bring the score to 8-6. Both teams would finish quietly, and not score again through the last two innings.

Evansville will play Florence again on Star Wars Night tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 pm CDT.
