First-Place Ice Reaches 30-Win Plateau

February 3, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Indianapolis Ice News Release

THIRTY SOMETHING: With four wins in five nights last week, the Ice became the second member of the CHL's 30-win club (Austin being the other). The eight-point week increased the Ice's lead in the Northeast Division to 11 points and the Northern Conference to eight points. Indy, who is riding a six-game win streak, is now an incredible 19-2-1 in its last 22 games and has outscored its opponents during that stretch by a 81-42 margin.

THIRTY SOMETHING PART TWO: Indy's 30-something veteran duo of Bernie John and Kevin St. Jacques were two of the reasons for the Ice's big eight-point week. John, 30, led the Ice with seven points (1G, 6A) last week which catapulted him into third among league defensemen in scoring with 42 points (9G, 33A). St. Jacques, 31, has been the team's resident playmaker of late as he handed out six more assists last week which places him in a tie for third in the CHL with 38 this season. The team's elder statesman also reached the 500-assist mark for his pro career and enters this week's play on the tails of a six-game point streak (ten assists).

HI-YO SILVER: Shawn Silver is coming off another one of his typical weeks as the all-star goaltenders' weekly numbers included a 3-0-0 record, 1.43 goals-against-average and a .945 save percentage in four games of work. The perfect week extended his current winning streak to eight games which leaves him one shy of the franchise record of nine set by his goaltending mate, Jamie Morris during Indy's championship run of 2000. In addition, he is 15-1-0 in his last 17 outings to go along with a 1.59 GAA, three shutouts and a .937 save percentage. His 1.72 GAA overall is the best in the CHL, while he is second in save percentage (.935), wins (23) and shutouts (5).

TOUGHER THAN LEATHER: Jason Baird brings a nine-game point streak (7G, 4A) into this week's action which is three away from this year's team season high he set back in October/November...Baird also has 20 points (10G, 10A) in his last 14 games...Etienne Morin has five goals in his last four games and his 19 goals on the season rank him second in the CHL among rookies in goal scoring.

HISTORICAL MARKINGS: Kevin St. Jacques notched his 500th career assist last week...Randy Holmes posted career goal #200 this past Saturday...Jamie Morris is one win away from 50 for his Ice and pro career...Ryan Aikia played in his 100th game with the Ice over the weekend....Newcomer Simon Duplessis scored his first goal with the Ice in Sunday's win.

THE STAT BOOK: Indy has killed off 27 straight opponents' power plays which is eight away from an earlier streak of 35 kills that took place in late November...The PK run has put the Ice third overall in the CHL (168/192, 87.5%) and first at home (90/96, 93.8%)...The Ice is 8-0-1 against Wichita this year, while goaltender Shawn Silver is 8-0-0 with an 0.87 GAA against the Thunder this season...Indy plays the San Angelo Saints for the first time in franchise history this weekend.
