New Mexico Scorpions News Release

ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico Scorpions of the Central Hockey League announced today that they have made two deals at the league's trade deadline, acquiring All-Star defenseman Vladimir Hartinger from the Wichita Thunder in exchange for defensemen Mario Dumoulin and Dominic Plenzich as well as future considerations. The Scorpions also received rookie right wing Jasmin Roy from the Oklahoma City Blazers to complete the Jan. 10 deal that sent winger Mike Payne to the Blazers.

Hartinger, 23, has 22 points (10g-12a) and 111 penalty minutes in 41 games with the Thunder. He was one of two Wichita representatives at the CHL All-Star Game in Oklahoma City, and leads Thunder defensemen in points and is fifth on the team in penalty minutes. The 6-foot, 200-pound native of Sternberk, Czech Republic recorded 27 points (4g-23a) last season in Wichita, his first in North America.

Roy, 22, recorded six goals, ten points and 76 penalty minutes in 35 games with the Blazers. He also led the team with 12 major penalties. The 6-foot-1, 201-pound native of St. Eustache, Quebec played last season for Matane in the Quebec Senior Hockey League, where he recorded 54 points (26g-28a) and 164 penalty minutes in just 27 games.

"Hartinger will improve our defense in a variety of ways," said Scorpions Head Coach/Assistant General Manager Bill McDonald. "He will be an asset to our power play, but most importantly, he is a physical player who is good at taking the body and clearing the front of the net.

"Jasmin will help improve the physical presence on our team," added McDonald. "He works hard and battles every shift and does whatever is necessary to help the team.

The Scorpions complete a four-game homestand on Tuesday, Feb. 4 when they host the Amarillo Gorillas for the second time in six days. Faceoff is at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on SportsRadio 610 The Sports Animal beginning with Scorpions Pregame at 6:50 p.m. After tomorrow's game, the Scorpions embark on a seven-game road trip, not returning home until Saturday, Feb. 22 when they host Wichita on Rainbo Bread Youth Jersey Night.
