Albany Devils News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- After a 2-0 first period advantage, the Albany Devils let the lead slip and fell, 3-2, Friday against the Binghamton Senators at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. Matt Taormina and Stephane Veilleux scored for Albany, which goes to 18-16-5-3. The win improves Binghamton to 19-24-1-1.

The Devils couldn't find success despite dressing nine players who have played in the AHL and NHL this season. Since last Friday, Peter Harrold, Jacob Josefson, Matt Taormina, Mattias Tedenby and Steve Zalewski were all sent to Albany by New Jersey.

Taomina, a 2012 AHL All-Star, highlighted that groups efforts with a goal and an assist, while Harrold, Josefson and Zharkov all earned assists. In goal, Jeff Frazee had 21 saves.

For Binghamton, Andre Petersson had a pair of power-play tallies and Jim O'Brien netted a shorthanded goal. Between the pipes, former Devil Mike McKenna made 38 stops.

Albany looked unstoppable in the first period, outshooting Binghamton, 13-3. Taormina netted his fifth goal of the season with a blast from the point. Harrold and Josefson setup the play at 9:44.

Seconds later at 10:12, Zharkov found Veilleux for a one-timer from below the left face-off dot. The goal was Veilleux's ninth of the season and fourth in as many games, while the assist extended Zharkov's point streak to a season-long five games.

In the second, the Senators capitalized on power-play goals one minute and fifty-four seconds apart by Petersson. The first came at 12:53 with assists from Stephane Da Costa and Rob Klinkhammer and the second was at 14:47 from Mike Hoffman and Da Costa.

The game-winning goal came off the stick of Jim O'Brien with his team killing a penalty. The Devils turned the puck over in the defensive end, allowing O'Brien to be setup in the slot by Klinkhammer at 7:41.

The Devils return to action Saturday when their Time Warner Cable Cup rival, the Adirondack Phantoms, arrive at the Times Union Center for a 5 p.m. contest. The first 2,000 fans will receive a Martin Brodeur bobblehead. Additionally, everyone in attendance will have a chance to win a signed Brodeur game-issued jersey or a autographed miniature stick.
