San Antonio Missions News Release
One bad inning turned out to be too much to overcome for San Antonio as they lost to Frisco 4-1 in front of 5,583 Tuesday night at Wolff Stadium.
Tuesday got off to rough start for Missions' right-hander Elliot Morris. The 23-year-old hurler fell behind 4-0 in the first after allowing a two-run homer off the bat of Nomar Mazara and run-scoring hits by both Drew Robinson and Luis Marte.
San Antonio got one back in the bottom half of the first, an inning that began with a Travis Jankowski triple. It was the first at-bat back with the club for Jankowski, who earlier in the day, was reinstated from the temporary inactive list (Pan-Am Games). Two batters later, Alberth Martinez drove in Jankowski with a groundout to third.
Morris settled down after the rocky first, putting up zeroes over the next six innings, while allowing just two more hits. The seven innings pitched matched a career high for Morris, who fanned five.
Unfortunately, for Morris (3-9), his mound opponent, Jose LeClerc was a little better. Leclerc (5-4) allowed just the first-inning run on three hits and one walk, while striking out five over six innings.
Relievers Chad James and David Martinez (13th save) combined to finish up the Frisco victory with three scoreless innings of one-hit ball.
San Antonio (10-15, 41-54) wraps up its four-game series against Frisco (15-9, 44-50) Wednesday on Military Appreciation Night presented by Air Force Federal Credit Union. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Justin Hancock (6-6, 3.20) will get the ball for the Missions, while the 'Riders counter with fellow righty Jake Thompson (6-5, 4.11).
Notes: In addition to Jankowski, infielder Benji Gonzalez was also added to the roster. Gonzalez played in five games early this season with the Missions before suffering a wrist injury. He arrived from Triple-A El Paso, where he was hitting .315 in 17 games. San Antonio placed two players on the disabled list. Shortstop Jose Rondon has been lost for the season following a right elbow fracture. Right-hander Casey Kelly (finger) was also placed on the 7-day DL.
