Long Island Ducks News Release
(New Britain, Conn.) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the New Britain Bees 3-1 on Thursday night in the finale of a three-game series at New Britain Stadium.
The Ducks used a two-out, three-run rally in the first inning against Bees starter Andy Van Hekken for all the offense they would need. RBI doubles from Lew Ford and David Washington opened the scoring, and Washington then scored on a fielding error by Jonathan Galvez.
New Britain grabbed their only run in the bottom of the first when Deibinson Romer walked and Reid Brignac followed with an RBI double off Ducks starter Bennett Parry. The Bees would get no closer though, as Parry pitched four scoreless innings thereafter and four Ducks relievers combined to allow just one hit and one walk while striking out seven over the final four innings.
Parry (1-0) earned the win, tossing five innings of one-run ball, allowing five hits and three walks while striking out six. Van Hekken (1-1) suffered the loss, yielding three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk over six innings with four strikeouts. Francisco Rodriguez earned his second save of the year, retiring the side in order in the ninth.
Wilkin Castillo and Dan Lyons each had two hits to pace the Flock offensively.
The Ducks return home on Friday night to open a three-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). The U.S. Open Championship Trophy Tour will stop by the ballpark, and fans can get their picture taken with the famous trophy inside the ballpark while also trying out their putting skills prior to entering the gates. It's also a Bowlero Friday at the ballpark, and the Ducks will be running their Red Robin K-Man promotion as well. Right-hander Jair Jurrjens (1-1, 5.40) gets the start for the Ducks against Skeeters righty Brett Marshall (0-0, 0.00).
