Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots (10-3) defeated the Road Warriors (4-8) 6-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening.
The Road Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a double play. Somerset answered immediately, tying the game on a sacrifice fly by Endy Chavez and taking the lead on an RBI single by Alex Castellanos.
The Patriots extended the lead with two runs in the third inning on an RBI fielder's choice by Kyle Roller and an error that made the score 4-1.
The Road Warriors scored their final run in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI groundout by Jorge Fernandez-Diaz.
Alfredo Rodriguez's two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning put the game away for the 6-2 final.
"I was just looking for a pitch in the zone and extend the lead," said Rodriguez, who finished the game 3-for-3 with two RBI. "I was just looking to get us some insurance runs. [Jose Ortega] was throwing pretty hard out there and I was just looking for a pitch that I could do damage with and was able to stick with it to come through."
Aaron Laffey (1-0) picked up the win, allowing two runs on three hits in six innings pitched. David Perez (0-3) suffered the loss, allowing four runs- three earned- on eight hits in 3.2 innings pitched.
