Biloxi Shuckers News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL - A four-run first inning was enough for the Montgomery Biscuits (36-38, 8-4 2nd Half) to top the Biloxi Shuckers (38-41, 4-8 2nd Half) 4-2 on Sunday evening at Riverwalk Stadium.
Montgomery got to Shuckers' starter RHP Victor Castañeda (L, 1-4) in the first. Brett Wisley led off the inning with a home run and five of the next six hitters reached, plating two more runs to make it 3-0 Biscuits. Castañeda struck out Garrett Hiott for the second out, but a fielding error allowed another run to score and pushed Montgomery ahead 4-0.
Biloxi struck back for a run in the top of the fourth. Andruw Monasterio started the inning with a double and Jakson Reetz followed with an infield single that put runners on the corners. Thomas Dillard lined out to left, plating Monasterio to bring the Shuckers within a trio at 4-1. It was the lone run allowed by Biscuits' starter RHP Jayden Murray (W, 7-2) who threw six innings for the Biscuits.
Out of the bullpen, RHP Nash Walters hurled 2.1 inning scoreless innings with three strikeouts. RHP Harold Chirino followed with a pair of shutout innings and RHP Cam Robinson hurled a 1-2-3 sixth inning for Biloxi.
The Shuckers drew closer in the top of the eighth inning. Noah Campbell singled with one out and stole second base before Jason Lopez worked a walk. Sal Frelick then singled to right field, plating Campbell, but Lopez was thrown out attempting to move to third for the second out. Joey Wiemer ripped a single into left, reaching as the tying run, but RHP Nathan Witt (H,2) struck out the next batter to end the scoring threat.
RHP Kent Hasler covered two scoreless frames for the Shuckers, but LHP Jose Lopez (S, 7) retired the side in order in the ninth to lock down the win for the Biscuits.
