Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (36-38/8-4) beat Biloxi Shuckers (38-41/4-8) twice on Sunday, completing a suspended game from Saturday with a 7-6 (10) victory, and then winning 4-2 in the series finale-both at Riverwalk Stadium.

Josh Roberson (2-3) came on for the Biscuits to complete the suspended game from Saturday and struck out Noah Campbell with runners on first and second and two outs with the Shuckers ahead 6-4 in the top of the 10th inning.

Zach Vennaro (3-1) was on in the bottom of the 10th and got Brett Wisely and Osleivis Basabe to ground out to first, the latter of which scored Tyler Frank and made it a 6-5 game. With the bases empty and two gone, Jordan Qsar reached on an infield single and then Kameron Misner slashed his third double and fifth hit of the game to left to keep Montgomery's hopes alive.

Niko Hulsizer walked in the next at-bat to load the bases, and then Blake Hunt walked in the next at-bat to tie the game at six. Garrett Hiott was up next, and Vennaro hit the center fielder to secure the Biscuits' fifth walk-off win of the season.

Jayden Murray (7-2) started for the Biscuits in the series finale, and the righty retired the Shuckers in order on a couple flyouts and a groundout in the top of the first.

Victor Castaneda (1-4) made his second start of the series on the other side for the Shuckers, and the right-hander served up a solo home run to lead-off hitter Brett Wisely, who made it 1-0 Biscuits. Castaneda did not make it out of the first inning as the Biscuits tacked on three more runs thanks to a bases-loaded walk to Erik Ostberg, an RBI-single by Blake Hunt, and an error by Shuckers second baseman Felix Valerio, who made it 4-0 Montgomery after one.

Murray hit Jakson Reetz to begin the second inning, but struck out Cam Devanney to complete another scoreless frame. Osleivis Basabe doubled off Nash Walters in the bottom of the second, but that was all for the Biscuits in the inning.

Murray and Walters both worked scoreless third innings, and then Thomas Dillard stroked a sac fly to left in the top of the fourth to pull back a run for the Shuckers and make it a 4-1 contest.

After a scoreless fifth, Murray tallied back-to-back strikeouts to end a scoreless sixth, getting Joey Wiemer and Andruw Monasterio swinging to end the inning and hand the right-hander his second and third punch-outs of the afternoon.

Nathan Witt came on for Murray and worked a one-two-three seventh, preserving the 4-1 advantage, but allowed an RBI-single to Sal Frelick in the top of the eighth to make it 4-2. Jose Lopez came on for Witt in the ninth and shut the Shuckers down in order, striking out two en route to the southpaw's seventh save. Murray also won his fifth-consecutive start.

The Biscuits will now hit the road and travel to the Magic City to take in the Birmingham Barons for the first time this season in a six-game series starting Tuesday, July 12 at 7:05 PM CT, but will return to Riverwalk Stadium after the All-Star break for a three-game series against the Mississippi Braves for Gump Weekend beginning on Friday, July 22 at 6:35 PM CT when there will be an Adult Greenbow Biscuits Replica Jersey Giveaway presented by Direct Auto Insurance.

The rest of the series will include Fitness Night & MAX Fireworks on Saturday, July 23 at 6:05 PM CT, and a Kids Replica Jersey Giveaway presented by Hyundai Motor Manufacturing of Alabama & Bark in the Park on Sunday, July 24 at 3:33 PM CT.
