Mississippi Braves News Release

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (37-44, 8-4) bid for a fourth straight comeback win came up just short in a 4-3 loss to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (39-37, 4-8) on Sunday afternoon at Trustmark Park.

The M-Braves scored three runs in the seventh but left three runners on in the final two innings. The M-Braves took their second straight series four games to two.

RHP Alan Rangel worked around a base hit in the first, a bases loaded jam in the second and runners on the corners in the third. The Blue Wahoos finally got to him in the fourth, bringing in four runs, three earned, off three hits and an error to jump ahead 4-0. Rangel left one out into the fourth at 90 pitches.

The M-Braves offense stayed quiet until the seventh. Yariel Gonzalez, Logan Brown and Cody Milligan each singled to bring in a run. With Justin Dean at the plate, back-to-back wild pitches from RHP Zach Leban allowed Brown and Milligan to score to cut the lead to 4-3.

Milligan has three RBI in the last two games. Since being promoted to Mississippi on June 21, Milligan reached base safely in 14 of 17 games.

Gonzalez posted his second straight two-hit game, going 2-for-4.

In the eighth, CJ Alexander delivered a leadoff single and Jalen Miller walked. Both were in scoring position with two outs, but Gonzalez grounded out to third baseman Cobie Fletcher-Vance to end the inning.

The M-Braves bullpen kept them in the game with 5 2/3 scoreless innings.

After Rangel's exit, RHP Coleman Huntley III went 1 2/3 innings, dropping to a 2.49 ERA in 43 1/3 innings this season.

RHP AJ Puckett tossed two shutout innings, RHP Odalvi Javier added a scoreless frame and LHP Jake Higginbotham struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth.

Javier has not allowed an earned run in 17 innings over his last 13 relief appearances.

In the ninth, Milligan reached on a single but was left on first base. RHP Colton Hock struck out Dean to end the game.

The M-Braves start a six-game home series on Tuesday against the Rocket City Trash Pandas from July 12-17.
