June 22, 2016 - Southern League (SL1)
Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
The Lookouts closed out the first half of the 2016 season with a three-games-to-two series victory over the Montgomery Biscuits, capping off a tremendous run of baseball in which the team went 13-6 in June with a .268 team batting average and a 2.57 team ERA. With the June swing, the Lookouts clinched an over .500 record in the first half. Here are a few players whose first half performances helped power the team's success.
OF Daniel Palka
After losing last year's homerun leader Adam Brett Walker II to a call-up to Rochester, the Lookouts needed a new power hitting threat in their lineup in 2016. Enter, Daniel Palka. Palka hit 16 homeruns with over 50 RBI in the first half and spent all of June a-top the league leaderboard in home runs after going deep nine times that month. Daniel padded his home run totals with three multi-homer games, and earned a spot on the Midseason All Star team.
RHP Trevor Hildenberger
Trevor Hildenberger joined Palka as a Lookouts All Star representative after a lights-out first half as Chattanooga's closer. Hildenberger allowed only two runs after being called up from Ft. Myers, April 26th, and had a sub-1.00 ERA through mid-June. Hildenberger's dominant half included a stretch of 14 straight appearances without allowing a run, during which he allowed just eight hits and two walks while striking out 20 in 18 innings pitched.
OF Zack Granite
Zack Granite sparked the Lookouts offense from the top of the lineup in the first half of 2016. The speedster hit .282 with three home runs, four triples, seven doubles and 38 runs scored through June 17th, and led the team in multi-hit games with 23 such performances. Most impressive of all was Granite's production on the basepath, where he stole 30 bases, including a four-steal game April 20th and a pilfering of home base April 14th.
