Pensacola Blue Wahoos News Release

PENSACOLA, Fla., - After an exciting first half with the Blue Wahoos capturing the South Division title, the Cincinnati Reds have announced the following roster change for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

- Tony Renda, INF, promoted to Louisville (AAA)

- Taylor Mahle, RHP, promoted from Daytona (A+)

- Taylor Sparks, INF, promoted from Daytona (A+)

Tony Renda, 25, hit a Double-A best .326 this season for Pensacola. His 85 hits and 25 doubles were also good enough to be the best in all of Double-A. Renda was a staple in the Blue Wahoos lineup, often hitting in the leadoff spot while playing in a variety of positions on the field. The California native was named a Southern League All-Star, but did not play in the game due to prior plans. The former top Yankees prospect will be making his Triple-A debut for Louisville.

Tyler Mahle, 21, makes his way eastward to Pensacola after a stellar first half in High-A Daytona, where he was 8-3 with a 2.50 ERA in 13 starts for the Tortugas. He led the Florida State League in strikeouts with 76, while walking just 17 in 79.1 innings. On June 13, Mahle allowed just one baserunner in a complete game no-hitter in which the Tortugas beat Jupiter, 4-0. That performance led to him being named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week for the week for June 13-19. Listed as the Reds' number 11 prospect by MLB Pipeline, Mahle was selected in the 7th round, 225th overall, in the 2013 draft out of high school in Westminster, California.

Taylor Sparks, 23, comes to Pensacola after spending all of 2015 and the first half of 2016 with High-A Daytona, where he hit .237 with 19 HR and 88 RBI during that time. He took Florida State League Offensive Player of the Week honors for his 10 for 27 (.370) performance during the week of May 23-29 this season. Tabbed by MLB Pipeline as the Reds' 19th-best prospect, Sparks was a 2nd round pick (58th overall) of the Reds in 2014 after leading UC-Irvine to the College World Series in his junior season. He hit .308 with five homers and 37 RBI that season. The third baseman launched 18 home runs in his three years for the Anteaters while driving in 99 runs.

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos have 25 active players on the roster.
