PEARL, MS - Trustmark's 2016 Southern League All-Star Game featured a pitcher's duel most of the way, but the South Division defeated the North Division 5-1 at Trustmark Park Tuesday evening thanks in large part to Phillip Ervin's grand slam.

The North and South Division All-Stars battled through four scoreless innings before the South Division finally got on the board in the fifth. Ildemaro Vargas (MOB) led off the bottom of the fifth with a base hit to right field.

Brett Phillips (BLX) and Dansby Swanson (MIS) followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases with one out. Brandon Dixon's (PNS) RBI-single made it 1-0 before Ervin (PNS) blasted a grand slam to left-center, giving the South Division a 5-0 lead.

The North Division managed to get a run across in the final frame. Victor Caratini (TNS) doubled and scored on a Kean Wong (MTG) base hit to center field.

Both teams managed eight hits apiece.

For the North, Willy Adames (MTG) and Wong both went 2-for-4 at the plate. Guillermo Heredia (JXN), Caratini, Eudy Pina (BIR) and Travis Harrison (CHA) each added a hit.

For the South, Swanson went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Brett Phillips (BLX), Brandon Dixon (PNS), Austin Dean (JAX), Garrett Cooper (BLX), Ervin and Vargas each added a base hit.

Barrett Astin (PNS) was awarded the win while Brad Markey (TNS) took the loss.
