FLINT, Mich. - Oliver Peer scored twice in his Flint debut, Simon Slavicek and Coulson Pitre each had a goal and an assist and the Firebirds erased a 3-1 deficit with four unanswered goals as they went on to beat the Owen Sound Attack, 5-3, on Wednesday night at the Dort Financial Center.

With Flint trailing, 3-1, late in the second period, Peer received a stretch pass and raced down the right wing. He got the edge on the Owen Sound defense and snapped a wrist shot to the far post, past the blocker of Corbin George, to bring the Firebirds within one.

Then, in the final minute of the second period, Blake Smith hit Pitre who stormed into the attacking zone. He fed Nolan Dann at the left wing circle, who snapped a wrist shot on net. Dann's shot darted through the legs of George and the game was tied at three.

The Firebirds grabbed the lead for good with just over five minutes to play in the third after Slavicek took a pass at center ice and worked his way into the attacking zone. He dangled his way through multiple Owen Sound defenders and flicked a wrist shot past George and Flint led, 4-3.

Flint then grabbed an insurance marker as Roberto Mancini sent a long pass through the neutral zone for Pitre just shy of the blue line. Pitre strode with the puck and sent a wrist shot low past the glove of George to make the score 5-3.

Pitre finished with two points in his first game since being named captain and Dann extended his point streak to nine games with a goal and an assist.

Flint opened the scoring in the first period when Peer grabbed the puck off the boards and skated to the blue line. He sent a wrist shot through traffic that beat George and put the Firebirds on the board. Owen Sound answered in the final minute of the first period. Sam McCue cleaned up a rebound and snuck a shot through Day to tie the game at one.

Owen Sound took its 3-1 lead with a pair of second period power play goals. First, McCue finished off a two-on-one rush. Then, Cedrick Guindon snapped pass through the crease that bounced off a Flint stick and Day's pads before trickling across the goal line.

Peer scored in each of his first two periods as a Firebird and fellow newcomers Mancini and Connor Clattenburg both recorded an assist in their Flint debuts. The Firebirds improved to 16-20-2-1 with the win while Owen Sound dropped to 18-17-2-1 in its loss.

Flint will now hit the road for a pair of games over the weekend. It begins on Friday night in St. Catharines against the Niagara IceDogs. Puck drop at the Meridian Centre is scheduled for 7 p.m.
