Flint Firebirds News Release

FLINT, Mich. - The Flint Firebirds announced on Wednesday that they have acquired defenseman Gavin Ewles from the Ottawa 67's in exchange for two draft picks.

Ewles, a 2005-born defenseman, has appeared in 36 games for the 67's this season and recorded eight assists. During his first full season in 2022-23, he played 47 games for Ottawa and had five goals and one assist. The Barrie native was selected by Ottawa in the fifth round of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection and has six goals and nine assists along with a +9 plus/minus rating over 85 career OHL games.

Flint is sending the Owen Sound Attack's 2025 third round pick and the Peterborough Petes' 2025 fourth round pick to Ottawa in the trade.

"Gavin is a reliable defenseman who will add depth to our blue line. He can play a lot of minutes, against top lines, and is a solid puck mover," Firebirds General Manager Dave McParlan said. "He's a great kid with high character, someone who will be a good addition on the ice and in the dressing room. We're excited to welcome him to the Firebirds organization."

The OHL's trade deadline passed on Wednesday afternoon. Flint will return to action on Wednesday night on home ice against Owen Sound. It's a Buy One Get One Wednesday; any fan who buys a ticket to the game can get a second ticket of equal or lesser value for free. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Dort Financial Center.
