Firebirds Back in the Win Column with 5-3 Triumph over Sarnia Sunday

Flint, Mich. - Down 2-0 in second period, the Firebirds scored four-straight en-route to a 5-3 home victory over the Sarnia Sting Sunday. For Flint, Vladislav Kolyachonok (Florida Panthers) recorded two goals and an assist, Jake Durham had a two-point game including the game-winning goal, Brennan Othmann and Connor Roberts also tallied two-points and Anthony Popovich made 39 saves on 42 shots.

Sam Bitten started things off for the Sting at 13:06 of the opening frame. Ryan Roth dished a pass to Bitten behind Anthony Popovich who redirected it into the goal. Jamieson Rees picked up the second assist. Then, Jacob Perreault found the back of the net from the right circle, farside while on the power-play at 5:49 of the middle period.

Flint would score the next four. First, Connor Roberts scored while crashing the net off a rebound from Dennis Busby at 9:04. Jake Durham was awarded the second assist. Then, Vladislav Kolyachonok lit-the-lamp for the next two. Kolyachonok made a skilled play in the offensive zone and fired a shot into the net from the point at 14:44 to tie it 2-2 where the game was after two periods of play.

Kolyachonok put Flint in the lead at 7:55 of the third period. He scored his eighth of the season on a snapshot from the top of the right circle, gloveside. Brennan Othmann and Riley McCourt were credited with the assists. Jake Durham would score the eventual game-winning goal at 14:33. Evgeniy Oksentyuk dished a pass to Durham who fired a shot from the high-slot blockerside.

Perreault would add one more for the Sting, sneaking a shot shortside from the goal line while on the power-play at 17:58. Jack Phibbs tallied the final goal on an empty net.

Next up for Flint, the Firebirds will play three games in four nights, beginning Thursday in Barrie against the Colts. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. (ET) at Colts Centre.
