Albany/Indiana Firebirds News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Firebirds of the Arena Football League have added WSDX ESPN Radio 1130 AM (Brazil, IN) and WBOW ESPN Radio 1300 AM (Terre Haute, IN) to its Radio Network, extending the Firebirds' radio coverage through northwestern Indiana and the eastern region of Illinois. Both stations will broadcast the Firebirds' remaining eleven games of the 2003 season.
The two stations join ESPN Radio 950 AM and WPZZ 95.9 FM in covering Firebirds' football. As Wabash Valley's only full-time sports talk radio stations for the past three years, WSDX and WBOW cover a five-county two-state area including Vigo, Clay, Putnam, Vermillion, and Parke counties in western Indiana and three counties spanning eastern Illinois.
"We are pleased and proud to extend the Indiana Firebirds brand across northwest Indiana," said Firebirds general manager Joe Hennessy. "Between the two stations we can reach 250,000 potential new Firebirds fans and we look forward to bringing them exciting Arena Football League action."
In addition to game coverage, WSDX and WBOW will broadcast "Birds Blitz", a weekly hour-long Firebirds "variety show" which is hosted by Firebirds' play-by-play man Ari Wolfe and Hennessy. "Birds Blitz" airs every Wednesday night from 6-7 pm on location at Moon Dog Tavern, located on the corner of E. 96th Street and Grey Road.
"We are proud to add the Firebirds to our lineup of premier event broadcasting which includes the IndyCar Series, Indiana Pacers, NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament, NBA Finals, World Series, Super Bowl, Indy 500, Bowl Championship series, Xtreme Sports Talk, and IHSAA Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament," said Program Director Mike King. "We are excited to be the first two additions to the Firebirds' Radio Network and look forward to carrying the remaining eleven games."
The Firebirds are back in action on Monday night when they travel to Orlando to face the Predators, who are the lone unbeaten team in the Arena Football League entering this week's play. The game can be heard on the Indiana Firebirds' Radio Network, which includes ESPN Radio 950 AM (Indianapolis), WPZZ 95.9 FM (Franklin, IN), ESPN Radio 1130 AM (Brazil) and ESPN Radio 1300 AM (Terre Haute). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm. The 'Birds return home next Sunday, March 16th to face the Los Angeles Avengers in the first of a two-game home stand.
