FireAntz training camp set to begin

[FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.] - The Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) are set to begin training camp on Friday, October 14th. The FireAntz will take the ice with 26 players in camp, all fighting for 18 roster spots.

Derek Booth, the Head Coach of the FireAntz, returns for his second season in Fayetteville after winning the Coach of the Year in the SPHL last season, his rookie season as a Head Coach. Ten of the 26 that are in training camp are returners from last year's team.

"We're looking to capitalize on last year's successes." Booth added, "We will have a team with quickness, guys who can handle the puck, and guys who excel in our systems."

Opening night for the FireAntz 2005-06 campaign is Friday, October 21st at 7:35 pm against the Pee Dee Cyclones. The two teams play again the following night with the same start time.

The FireAntz will also be hosting the "FireAntz Festival" from 1-4 pm on Sunday, October 16th followed by a free exhibition game at 4 pm, all at the Crown Coliseum. The festival will include live music by the band "Wazted Vision", fun for the kids including an inflatable bounce house and slide, and free hot dogs. This event is free for all fans. The FireAntz will also be accepting donations in conjunction with the American Red Cross for Disaster Relief.
