
FireAntz Set Single-Game Attendance Record

[FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.] - The Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) set the single-game attendance record on Saturday night as 9,385 fans came out on Operation Welcome Home V: Military Appreciation Night. There was also an ice dedication ceremony in honor of Thomas M. Bolton Sr.
Friday, October 31st (vs. Huntsville): The FireAntz opened the home portion of their schedule, entering the contest 2-0 on the road, against the undefeated Huntsville Havoc.
Halloween Night at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville got off to a good start for the FireAntz. After a scoreless 1st period, Jeff Genovy (1) scored his first goal as a FireAnt and gave the club a 1-0 advantage at the 1:22 of the 2nd period. Huntsville answered with three rapid-succession goals within 2:14 of each other, by B.J. Radovich (2) and Martin Kubaliak, to give the Havoc a 3-1 cushion that they would not relinquish. The win gave the Havoc a 5-0-0 start and dropped the FireAntz to 2-1 on the season.
The FireAntz outshot Huntsville 47-25.

Saturday, November 1st (vs. Knoxville): The FireAntz took home ice again, this time against Knoxville, who they defeated the prior Friday in Knoxville, 3-2. An SPHL record 9,385 fans were in attendance at the game.
After another scoreless 1st frame, Kevin Swider netted his first goal of the 2008-09 campaign, shorthanded, giving the Ice Bears a 1-0 lead at 11:57 of the 2nd. After a goal by Chris Rebernik and Mike Carter gave Knoxville a 3-0 edge, rookie defenseman Cody Cole (1) scored his 1st professional goal on a wrister from the point, preventing the home shutout loss. Knoxville won 3-1.
The FireAntz outshot Knoxville 33-26.

Noteworthy:
Forward Carl Bresser was waived on Monday.
Defenseman Cody Cole scored his first professional goal on Saturday.
Forward Rob Sich remains one goal behind all-time FireAntz leader B.J. Stephens (60) on the FireAntz Goal-Scoring list.
The FireAntz' attendance of 9,385 topped their own record for SPHL attendance in a single game. The previous record was 9,020 on February 9th, 2008.
Upcoming:
The FireAntz return to the road for three games before their next home game on Tuesday, November 18th at the Crown Coliseum. That night is $2 Tuesday where fans may purchase 25 tickets for only $50 (only from the FireAntz office.)
