FireAntz roll on, Dobek scores again

[FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.] - The Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) won again, last night in Pee Dee, their 8th consecutive victory. Forward Bryan Dobek, who entered the game with an 11-game goal-scoring, tallied two goals and two assists, setting an SPHL record with his 12th consecutive game with a goal.

Thursday, March 8th (at Pee Dee): The FireAntz traveled to Pee Dee to take on the Cyclones on Thursday night. Entering the contest the FireAntz held a 8-1-2 advantage over Pee Dee on the season.

In the first period, Bryan Dobek (14) did not take long to extend his goal scoring streak to 12 games. He tallied at the 6:35 mark on assists from Josh Tataryn and B.J. Stephens. The prior two contests, Dobek extended his streak in the final minute of the third period. Josh Piro (11) would provide the club a two-goal cushion less than 30 seconds later off of a feed from Gavin Hodgson. Pee Dee would cut the lead in half on a tally by Edan Welch. The FireAntz held a 2-1 lead going into the second frame.

In the second period, the FireAntz blew the game wide open, netting five goals to none for the Cyclones. Goals in the period were scored by Rob Sich (40), Jarrett Robertson (15), Dobek (2, 15), Stephens (29), and Josh Welter (19). Three of the five goals were scored on the power play.

In the third frame, Adam Meyer (7) provided the final scoring of the game and the FireAntz an 8-1 victory.

The FireAntz outshot the Cyclones 33-23 in the contest. Goaltender Chad Collins earned his 24th win. He is now tied with Huntsville's Matt Carmichael for the most victories in the SPHL.

Recent Notes:

Forwards Chris Ferguson and Nick Kormanyos remain on the 30-day IR. Rob Sich leads the SPHL in goals (40) and points (78). He is also 3rd in +/- rating with a +27. Tim Velemirovich leads all rookies in the SPHL in scoring (74 points) and is tied for 2nd overall in the league. He is also 2nd in the SPHL in assists (49) and 2nd in the SPHL in +/- rating with a +28. Forward Bryan Dobek now has a 12-game goal-scoring streak (15 total). Chad Collins is now T-1st in the SPHL with 24 wins. The FireAntz have won eight consecutive games and are now in sole-possession of 2nd place in the SPHL, just four points shy of 1st place Columbus.
