Fayetteville Marksmen News Release
[FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.] - The Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) made several roster moves today with the catalyst being the placing on team suspension of forwards Josh Welter and Rob Whidden. They also traded the rights of forward Chad Peck to Jacksonville for forward Brett Roat. Sean Edwards, whose 5-game tryout expired as of November 28th, was also signed to a contract.
Josh Welter, who had 25 points in 14 games, leaves the FireAntz as the third leading scorer and second in goals (13) in the SPHL. Rob Whidden was tied with Patrick Doherty, of the Pee Dee Cyclones, atop the rookie scoring list with 15 points.
The FireAntz also traded the rights of forward Chad Peck to Jacksonville for Brett Roat. Peck had 48 points in 32 games, last season, for the FireAntz. Roat, who has split time between the Barracudas and the Augusta Lynx of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) this season, returns to the FireAntz where he played 12 games in the 2003-04 season.
Sean Edwards, who just completed his 5-game tryout on Saturday, signed a contract to remain with the team. Last season, with the FireAntz, he tallied 15 goals and 22 assists in 51 games played.
The FireAntz next home game is Saturday, December 3rd at 7:35 pm, as the FireAntz host their annual Nascar Night. The game is brought to you by Best Western, Sprint, Walker Family Chiropractic, CCRC Physical Therapy, Hope Mills Glass, Larry Lee Plumbing, Tony and Susan Caines, and Lane Automotive.
Season tickets and Corporate Partnerships for the 2005-2006 campaign are still available. Contact the FireAntz office (910) 321-0123 for more information.
