Florida Seals News Release
[FLORENCE, S.C.] -Florida Seals center David Deeves started the year slow but has more than made up for it in the last week. After not scoring in his first 11 games, Deeves has notched five goals in the last five games.
Deeves led the Seals with the first two goals one coming in the middle part of the first period and the second just 42-seconds into the middle frame. Justin Keller joined in with a big offensive night of his own scoring the final two goals of the second period, on his way to a four point night, sending the Seals to the locker room with a 4-0 lead.
Morgan Smietana will be forced to wait another day for his first professional shutout as Pee Dee strung together two goals in the early part of the third period. Edan Welch scored his team leading tenth goal just under three minutes into the final stanza. Mark Allen would add a power play goal just over a minute later drawing the Cyclones within two goals.
Florida put the pressure back on Pee Dee goalie Kevin Schieve. David Deeves finished his hat trick at the 3:43 mark with a shorthanded goal. Dominick Dawes got into the scoring act late as he put the puck in with back-to-back goals against his former Norwich University teammate, Schieve. Pee Dee would add a late Patrick Doherty goal to end the scoring as the two teams combined for 10 goals on the evening.
The Seals will travel to Jacksonville Friday night for a showdown with the barracudas at 7:05 pm. Florida returns home against the intrastate rivals Saturday night at the Silver Spurs Arena. The first 1,000 fans who arrive for the 7:35 pm puck drop will receive a free Florida Seals trading card set courtesy of First National Bank of Osceola. Both games can be heard on Talk Radio 1190 WAMT.
