Fayetteville Marksmen News Release
[FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.] - The Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) have completed two transactions with the hopes of sparking their offensive output. Forwards Chris Ferguson and B.J. Stephens have been added to the roster. Ferguson was acquired via trade with the Huntsville Havoc (for Jomar Cruz and Sean Edwards) and Stephens was signed as a free agent.
Ferguson, a 6'0'', 195 pound centerman out of Brockville, Ontario comes to the FireAntz after playing for the Huntsville Havoc as well as teams in the UHL, CHL and OHL this season. Ferguson joins the club following the completion of a trade with the Havoc that sent goaltender Jomar Cruz and forward Sean Edwards to Huntsville.
Head Coach Derek Booth said, "Ferguson brings a scoring touch and a toughness that we're looking for in the second half of the season, going into the playoffs."
Stephens, a 6'2'', 215 pound forward from Hershey, Pennsylvania joins the FireAntz after playing four games in the ECHL this season with the Reading Royals. Last year Stephens played for the Jacksonville Barracudas and tallied 17 goals, 16 assists, and 33 points in 47 games.
Booth noted, "Stephens brings some grit, and from what I remember of him last year, he hits really hard."
Both Ferguson and Stephens will see their first action for the FireAntz on Thursday, January 26th as the FireAntz host the Florida Seals. The FireAntz also have a game on Friday January 27th against the Pee Dee Cyclones. Both games start at 7:35 pm at the Crown Coliseum. Great seats remain for both games.
