FireAntz Announce Exhibition Game

[FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.]-- The Cape Fear FireAntz of the South East Hockey League (SEHL) announced today that the team will host an exhibition game against the Winston-Salem Moosehead. The game will take place at the Crown Coliseum on Friday, October 17th at 7:35 p.m.

All tickets to the game will be $5 general admission, with no additional coliseum surcharge. Seating for the game will be located in the lower level. Tickets can be purchased at the Coliseum box office. For more information contact the Crown Coliseum Box Office at (910) 323-5088.

The FireAntz open training camp on Wednesday, October 15th at the Crown Coliseum. Returning players from last season include Aaron Shrieves, Peter Cermak, Dwight Wolfe, Mike Fournier, and Geoff Derouin. Joining the returning players for training camp is newcomer Matt Shannon.

Shrieves, a 6'3" 205 pound forward from Nelson, BC, played 54 games for the FireAntz last season. In those games, this fan favorite netted 23 goals and 12 assists for 35 points. Aaron, however, is known for his physical play as he racked up 267 penalty minutes for Cape Fear last season.

Cermak, a 6'1" 185 pound left wing from Bratislava, Slovakia has also returned for the FireAntz. In 60 games last season, this highly skilled forward scored 21 goals and had 53 assists for a total of 74 points and 60 penalty minutes.

Wolfe, a 6'5" 245 pound defenseman from Halifax, NS had 5 goals, 12 assists, 17 points, and 82 penalty minutes in 35 games for the FireAntz. This huge defender started the 2002-2003 season with the Knoxville Ice Bears, where he had 4 assists and 28 penalty minutes in 14 games played.

Fournier, a Charlton, Ma native returns to the FireAntz after a brief stint in St. Pete/Winston-Salem for a part of the 2002-2003 season. This standout youngster started the year in Cape Fear, where the 6'2" 190 pound defenseman posted 16 points and 168 penalty minutes in 48 games played for the FireAntz.

After a brief stint with the Charlotte Checkers of the ECHL, goaltender Geoff Derouin returns to Fayetteville. Derouin, a native of St. John, BC, had eight wins and a goals against average of 4.03 for the FireAntz last season.

The newcomer to the group is Matt Shannon, a 6'2" 210 pound forward from Miramichi, NB. He adds a physical presence to the FireAntz with his 91 penalty minutes in 66 games played for the Port Huron Beacons of the UHL.

Head Coach Scott Rex said of the new collection of FireAntz, "I am very happy with the group that has committed to our program at this point. This is a very competitive group that want to be a part of putting Fayetteville hockey back where it deserves to be."

Rex also announced that 12 other players have committed to FireAntz camp. Those player details will be released at a later date with all other leagues jockeying for the best available athletes at this time of the year.
