CARSON, CA (August 21, 2008) - The Chicago Fire (10-6-5, 35 pts.) defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy (6-9-6, 24 pts.) in front of a sellout crowd of 27,000 fans at The Home Depot Center. John Thorrington tallied the game-winning goal in the 65th minute with the assist credited to Brian McBride. Goalkeeper Jon Busch recorded five saves for his league-leading ninth shutout of the season. With the win, the Fire move into second place in the Eastern Conference Standings, one point behind New England.
