Former Colorado Rapids Midfielder and 1999 First Overall Pick Joins "Men in Red"

CHICAGO (Monday, April 1, 2002) - The Chicago Fire picked up Jason Moore off waivers today. The 1999 MLS first overall pick comes to Chicago after spending the 2000 and 2001 seasons with the Colorado Rapids and the 1999 season with D.C. United. He has registered 11 points on 11 assists in his MLS career.

The 23-year-old midfielder was drafted in the first round (1st overall) of the 1999 MLS College Draft by D.C. United, and has made 69 appearances (starting 58) since making his MLS debut on April 24, 1999 with D.C. The University of Virginia product was traded to the Colorado Rapids on February 18, 2000 for a first round pick in the 2001 MLS SuperDraft. He registered nine points on nine assists during his tenure with the Rapids in 2000 and 2001.

"I don't think I could be with a better team," said Moore. "I'm very grateful to Peter Wilt and Bob Bradley for making this possible. All the players in Chicago are a major influence on and off the field, and having Bob as coach is really a plus. He's an excellent communicator and treats everyone with respect. I'm looking forward to contributing to this team right away."

The 5'11, 170 lbs. Decatur native registered his first point as a member of D.C. United on May 22, 1999, assisting on the first goal in United's 3-1 victory over the Miami Fusion.

"Jason is definitely a talented young player," said Fire Head Coach Bob Bradley. "We are hopeful that he can take advantage of this opportunity to help our team and move forward with his career."

Moore was a finalist for the Hermann Award Trophy in 1998 as a sophomore and tallied 16 assists during his career at Virginia. Moore also made 10 appearances for the U.S. U-20 National Team in 1997, but was not selected to the roster for the World Youth Championships in Malaysia. He also was chosen as one of the four alternates to the 22-man roster at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympic Games.
