Earthquakes to Receive MLS Championship Rings at Home Opener on April 6th

First 10,000 Fans Will Also Receive Replica Championship Rings, Presented by McAfee.com

San Jose, Calif. (April 1, 2002) - The San Jose Earthquakes announced today the opening day festivities for the team's Saturday, April 6 match against the New England Revolution. The home opener kicks off at 12 noon at Spartan Stadium and will be broadcast live on espn2.

The highlight of the day's festivities will be the ring ceremony for the players and coaches on the field, 10 minutes prior to kickoff. The Earthquakes players will be introduced individually before lining up at midfield to receive their 2001 MLS Championship rings. Earthquakes captain Jeff Agoos will be receiving his fourth MLS Championship ring, while it will be the first for 20-year old striker Landon Donovan.

In addition, the first 10,000 fans to enter Spartan Stadium will join the celebration, as they will receive an Earthquakes replica championship ring, presented by McAfee.com.

At halftime, the Earthquakes will honor the 16 winners of the Washington Mutual San Jose Earthquakes Ticket Art Contest, a competition where local youths' contributed their artwork to the design of the Earthquakes 2002 Season Tickets. The 16 winners will be recognized on the field for their accomplishment and be presented with a commemorative plaque with their artwork on it. Winners also receive $100 towards a Washington Mutual Statement Savings Account.

Opening day family-fun activities also include the popular "Soccer Celebration", an interactive soccer-theme park that includes the Pepsi Goalkeeper Challenge, Pepsi Dribble, Pass and Score, the McAfee.com "Kick the Virus into the Net", human foosball, 4 v 4 soccer and much more.

Individual tickets are now on sale for the Earthquakes home opener and fans have a number of options for purchasing tickets. Individual tickets can be purchased by visiting the Earthquakes Ticket Office at 3550 Stevens Creek Blvd. or at the Compaq Center Ticket Office in San Jose, Calif. Fans can also purchase tickets online by logging on to www.sjearthquakes.com, by calling Ticketmaster at 408-998-TIXS, or by visiting any Ticketmaster outlet, including Towers Records, Wherehouse Music, Rite Aid, and Ritmo Latino.

Individual game ticket prices are $10 for Rumble, $15 for Shaker, $25 for Core and $40 for Epicenter.
