Daytona Tortugas News Release
KISSIMMEE, FL - The Daytona Tortugas were shut out for the third time this season in their 3-0 loss against the Florida Fire Frogs Friday night at Osceola County Stadium. Daytona had seven hits and drew five walks, but Fire Frogs pitching induced four double plays to help snap their seven game losing streak against the Tortugas.
Christian Pache got the scoring started with two-outs in the bottom of the third, when he hit a solo home run to left field off of LHP Wennington Romero, his fifth of the season, to give Florida a 1-0 lead.
The Fire Frogs doubled their lead in the fifth. Ray-Patrick Didder reached base on a fielder's choice, and moved to second on a Jordan Rodgers fly out to center field. Didder would then go to third on a Shean Michel infield single and score on a Pache infield single to go up 2-0.
Didder then led off the seventh with a bunt single and moved to second on a Mitch Nay throwing error, his second mishap of the game. Didder would come around to score two batters later on a Michel single to round out the scoring at 3-0.
LHP Kyle Muller (3-1) earned the win. He tossed six scoreless innings, allowed five hits and four walks, while striking out four. Romero (6-4) takes the loss, his third straight, after allowing six hits and two runs in 5 2/3 innings while striking out two. LHP Thomas Burrows picked up his third save, pitching a scoreless top of the ninth, allowing a walk and striking out two.
LHP Scott Moss (6-2, 4.45 ERA) will get the ball for the Tortugas Saturday afternoon against RHP Jeremy Walker (2-6, 3.98 ERA).
First pitch is scheduled for 12 PM, with coverage beginning at 11:45 AM with The Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230, AM 1490, and FM 106.9 WSBB.
