Florida Fire Frogs News Release

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Florida Fire Frogs snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Daytona Tortugas with a 3-0 victory at Osceola County Stadium on Friday night. The win was the first time Florida had prevailed over Daytona since opening night.

Cristian Pache (2x4, R, HR, 2 RBI) struck a line drive over the wall in left off Wennington Romero (6-4) with two outs in the third inning for the Fire Frogs' first hit of the night. The 19-year-old outfielder added an insurance run with a two-out, RBI single in the fifth inning to push home Ray-Patrick Didder (1x3, 2 R).

The two run cushion would be plenty of room to work with for Kyle Muller (3-1), who whirled his sixth quality start of the season (third at the High-A level). The 6-foot-7 southpaw worked out of trouble in the first after issuing two walks and a single, but retired Mitch Nay on a fly out to right field to escape the early jam.

The Dallas native scattered four more hits through his remaining five innings, while also dealing out two additional free passes to go along with four total strikeouts. The 20-year-old improved to 3-0 in the month of June, and lowered his ERA from 3.06 to 2.33 with the six scoreless innings.

Shean Michel (2x3, RBI) added an additional run in the seventh with a run-scoring single, plating Didder from second for the three-run advantage.

Mauricio Cabrera allowed two base runners, but did not have anyone reach second base through his two innings of relief. Thomas Burrows (SV, 3) worked around a leadoff walk in the ninth to earn his third save in four chances at the Advanced-A level.

Florida's (1-1, 30-38) defense helped out its pitching staff on Friday night by turning four double plays against Daytona (1-1, 38-30), with twin killings in the first, fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

The Fire Frogs take aim at a series lead in game three of the four-game set on Saturday afternoon at Osceola County Stadium. RHP Jeremy Walker (2-6, 3.98) looks to build off a career-high, eight-inning shutout performance against the Jupiter Hammerheads his last time out on June 18 for Florida, while Daytona will counter with LHP Scott Moss (6-2, 4.45). First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m., with coverage starting at 11:45 a.m. with the Florida Fire Frogs Pre-game Show on the Florida Fire Frogs Broadcasting Network.
