
Final Week of Preseason Training in Argentina

The MetroStars are currently in their final week of preseason training in the suburban town of Pilar, Argentina. The players, under Head Coach Bob Bradley and his staff, undergo morning and afternoon training sessions each day preparing for the upcoming 2003 season.
The Metros will play Argentine first division club Huracan tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. (ET), followed by a second match up on Thursday against Boca Juniors at 2:30 p.m. (ET) at the legendary La Bombonera in Buenos Aires. The MetroStars have defeated Boca Juniors twice in exhibitions played during the past year, including last Wednesday by a score of 1-0.
The team will return to New York/New Jersey this upcoming Friday, and are expected to resume local training at the bubble in Giants Stadium on Monday morning, March 31.
. The team opens its 2003 MLS campaign on Saturday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m., when they face Brian McBride and the Columbus Crew in the home opener at Giants Stadium. Individual game tickets for the home opener and all other MetroStars 2003 MLS regular season home games are currently on sale to the public.
Ticket prices range from $18 to $36. Tickets are available at the Continental Airlines Arena box office and at all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets will also be available through Ticketmaster by phone for callers in New Jersey (201-507-8900), New York (212-307-7171), and for Spanish-speaking customers throughout New York and New Jersey (212-307-4757).

Howard, Pope, Ziadie Depart Argentina For National Team Duty:
Three players left the team this past weekend in Argentina due to national team call-ups. Goalkeeper Tim Howard and defender Eddie Pope made the arduous trip this weekend from Buenos Aires to Seattle, Washington to join U.S. National Team camp to prepare for Venezuela this upcoming Saturday, March 29 at 4:00 p.m. ET (ESPN2-TV). Venezuela replaces Japan, who recently canceled a two-game trip to the United States. Defender Craig Ziadie joined Jamaica in Kingston this weekend to play in a Caribbean Zone qualifying tournament for the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Mathis, Lisi Rehab Continues:
Clint Mathis (hernia) and Mark Lisi (stress fracture, right ankle) continue to successfully rehab preparing to join the first team next week for training. Both players are currently rehabbing with athletic trainer John Gallucci, Jr. at the Saint Barnabas Sports Medicine Institute in Livingston, New Jersey. Mathis will be a special radio guest tonight on the World Soccer Weekly program on WSNR 620 AM, beginning shortly after 11:00 p.m. ET.
News 12 NJ Begins Airing Weekly "MetroStars Youth Soccer Segment":
News 12 NJ, in conjunction with the MetroStars, will feature a youth soccer standout every Tuesday night for the next 29 weeks. The feature, called "MetroStars Youth Soccer Segment", will air every hour Tuesday night beginning with the newscast at 5:00 p.m. ET through midnight (seven times). The youth soccer community can nominate its own youth soccer standout (boy or girl) by visiting the MetroStars official website (MetroStars.com). Last week's feature focused on a pair of brothers from Califon, New Jersey (U-12 Tewksbury Lynx).
MetroStars Reserve Team Falls In U.S. Open Cup Preliminary:
Garfield Vistula defeated the MetroStars Reserve Team (Blacks) last night, 3-0, in a preliminary round of the 2003 U.S. Open Cup competition. The defeat eliminates the reserve team from advancing in the Cup with a dream towards playing the first team or other MLS competition in a latter round of the tournament. The preliminary was played at Richfield Park in New Jersey.
