COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Crew and Sports Talk 1230 The Zone announced today the formation of a weekly soccer radio show called "Soccer Saturday Live From Columbus."
The show will air every Saturday from 11 a.m. to Noon throughout the Major League Soccer season, beginning this Saturday, March 29. Crew television and radio announcer, Dwight Burgess, will host the show.
"We are extremely excited to launch 'Soccer Saturday' this weekend," Crew President/General Manager Jim Smith said. "We believe that Crew fans and the Columbus market are ready for locally produced soccer programming and we are thrilled to be able to partner with Sports Talk 1230 The Zone to bring it to them. We are striving to provide fresh, original, intelligent content that will become 'can't miss radio' for area soccer fans."
Soccer Saturday Live From Columbus will focus on all aspects of soccer in the United States, with an emphasis on The Crew and Major League Soccer.
"The passionate fans of The Crew deserve their own radio show," said Steve Konrad, Sports Talk 1230 The Zone Program Director. "We are excited about teaming with The Crew to offer central Ohio soccer fans their own sports talk program every Saturday."
One segment of the show will feature Crew Head Coach Greg Andrulis and Crew players, while the remaining segments will include guests each week such as U.S. Men's National Team head coach Bruce Arena, MLS coaches and players, youth, college and professional coaches, soccer announcers and writers, and any other significant soccer figures or personalities. The show will also feature interactive opportunities for fans.
The Crew opens its 2003 season with Major League Soccer's opening day on Saturday, April 5 when U.S. Open Cup Champion Columbus takes on defending MLS Cup Champion Los Angeles Galaxy at 4 p.m. at Columbus Crew Stadium. The game is the only MLS game played that day and will be televised live on ABC Sports.
