
Fightins Drop Early Lead in Loss to Rumble Ponies

The Reading Fightin Phils jumped out to an early lead on Thursday. After back and forth action in the middle innings, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets) pulled away with four runs in the sixth and never looked back. They came from behind to beat the Fightins 7-3.
Binghamton out hit the R-Phils 10-4 in Thursday's contest. Johan Rojas and McCarthy Tatum each tallied their second home runs of the series.
For the second time in the series, Rojas got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with a leadoff home run. Kevin Vicuna followed with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He scored on Jhailyn Ortiz's sacrifice fly.
The Rumble Ponies tied the game at two in the following frame with a two-run homer by Luke Ritter.
Nick Meyer led off the top of the fifth with a triple and scored on Jeremy Vasquez's RBI single to give Binghamton a 3-2 advantage.
Tatum tied the game at three in the bottom half. He blasted a solo shot to deep left field, his second-straight game with a homer and third in the last four contests.
Binghamton used three singles, a sacrifice fly and a solo homer to take a 7-3 lead in the sixth inning.
Reading had a base runner in both the sixth and eighth innings but couldn't bring them home as they remained down by four.
Ortiz and Luis Garcia drew walks in the bottom of the ninth. However, a strikeout ended the game.
Mike Adams got the spot start out of the bullpen. He allowed two runs on a home run and went two innings with two strikeouts.
Tyler McKay pitched 2.2 innings in relief. He allowed five runs on six hits but struck out the side in his first frame of work.
Matt Seelinger got the final out of the sixth and finished with 2.1 innings of work. He allowed one hit but kept the Rumble Ponies off the board and finished with three strikeouts.
Andrew Schultz tossed a clean ninth inning. He allowed one hit and struck out one.
The Fightins will play at FirstEnergy Stadium next on August 26 at 7:00 PM.
