Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

MUSKEGON, Michigan - The Fighting Saints won their fifth game in a row by a 3-2 score Saturday night in Muskegon, reaching their second-longest winning streak of the season with just one week remaining in the USHL's regular season.

Neither team scored during the first period of play despite three powerplay opportunities, two of which partially coincided for a 5-on-3 chance for Dubuque. The Fighting Saints outshot the Lumberjacks 15-6 in the first frame. Zemgus Girgensons and Tyler Lundey gave the Fighting Saints goals in the second period, and Dubuque took a 2-1 lead into the final frame of play. Mike Matheson gave the Fighting Saints breathing room with a shorthanded goal early in the third period. Though Muskegon scored to close the gap, they could not tie the game, and the Fighting Saints took the 3-2 victory.

The Fighting Saints will finish off the regular season next weekend, hosting the Chicago Steel on Friday prior to their Saturday rematch with the Lumberjacks. Should the Fighting Saints finish in third place in the East, as appears likely, they will open the Clark Cup playoffs the following Monday in Dubuque against Team USA.
