Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
Fargo, N.D. - Mark Solyankin tallied his second goal of the season, but it was the only goal the Stampede could muster in a 5-1 setback to the Fargo Force Saturday night in Fargo. Sioux Falls earned a split in the series after taking Friday's game, 3-2 in a shootout. Charlie Lindgren made 29 saves in goal as the Stampede were once again unable to win back-to-back games. The loss dropped the Stampede to 17-35-6 on the season and they finished 3-5-0 against Fargo in the season series.
The Force came flying out of the gate trying to grab the first goal of the game, but Charlie Lindgren turned aside six early shots to keep Fargo off the board. The period didn't go on without a little scare as Zac McCarver went down behind the Fargo net after applying a check and needed to be taken off on a stretcher with 6:30 left in the period. He would end up being OK, but the Force would go on to score at 17:33 when Bryn Chyzyk took a pass from Austin Farley and slid the puck in the slot past the glove side of Lindgren to give the Force a 1-0 lead. Fargo would outshoot the Stampede 10-6- in the period.
The Force wasted little time in the second, scoring just 1:51 in when Dave Gust wristed a shot from the left circle past the glove of Lindgren to make it 2-0. Less than seven minutes later the Force took a 3-0 lead when Gabe Gurtler took the puck inside the right circle and wristed a shot into the upper left hand corner of the net. The Force made it 4-0 at 14:25 when Dominic Toninato picked up a loose puck in the slot and slapped it past the stick side of Lindgren. Sioux Falls would get on the board with 59 seconds remaining when Mark Solyankin tallied his second goal of the season. Dylan McLaughlin broke into the Force zone down the right wing boards and backhanded a shot that was stopped by Fargo netminder Zane Gothberg, but Solyankin was there to pick up the loose rebound and backhanded it into the net to make it a 4-1 game after two periods. Fargo outshot the Herd 14-9 in the period.
The Stampede had some quality scoring chances in the third, but Gothberg and the Force defense shut the door as the Herd tallied 10 shots, but had several blocked and were unable to get on the board. Sioux Falls pulled Lindgren with just over five minutes remaining for an extra attacker, but Pavel Zykov scored in the empty net to seal the game.
Fargo outshot the Herd 34-26 on the night and went 0-for-2 on the powerplay while the Stampede were 0-for-4. The Herd will close out the regular season next Friday and Saturday at home when they host Sioux City and Tri-City at 7:05 PM each night.
