Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, will honor the Blue Water Area's hockey history when they wear Port Huron Flags throwback jerseys for their weekend series with the Springfield Jr. Blues Saturday, November 30 and Sunday, December 1. The jerseys are available for pre-order for just $100 through the team's front office.

The Port Huron Flags professional hockey team competed in the International Hockey League from 1962 to 1981, playing their home games at McMorran Arena. The team won the 1971 Turner Cup Championship under head coach Ted Garvin, and two more during three seasons in which they were a farm team for the Detroit Red Wings, known as the Port Huron Wings. Many Fighting Falcons fans have fond memories of watching the Port Huron Flags.

The Fighting Falcons have been in contact with several former Flags stars, and many plan to attend the Retro Weekend series. The Flags' all-time leading scorer Bill LeCaine has helped the Fighting Falcons reach out to the former pros.

"We're really excited to honor the hockey tradition of the Blue Water Area, and we think Retro Weekend is going to be a great time to celebrate the Flags, the Fighting Falcons, and all the hockey history here at McMorran Arena," said Fighting Falcons Director of Operations Mike Reed.

"This team plays under the banners honoring the legendary players from those Flags teams every day, and we're really looking forward to having them back here for a game," Reed added. "Those Flags teams paved the way for every team that has called McMorran Arena home. Those teams created lifelong hockey fans that are still supporting the tradition by coming to our games today."

The jerseys the Fighting Falcons will wear will be very familiar to fans, as they're as close to an exact replica of the Flags jerseys of the 60s and 70s as possible, with the exception of a Port Huron Fighting Falcons shoulder logo. The jerseys are high-quality, semi-pro construction, with fully sublimated names, numbers and logos.

The one-of-a-kind jerseys can be pre-ordered for just $100 on a first-come, first-served basis by contacting the Port Huron Fighting Falcons front office at (810) 966-3800. Payment is required to secure the order.

The first-place Fighting Falcons return to McMorran Arena for a weekend series with the Soo Eagles this Friday and Saturday night. Each game begins at 7 p.m., as Port Huron hosts the Soo for the first time since the Eagles ended the Fighting Falcons 2012-13 season at McMorran Arena in the second round of the playoffs last year.

Tickets are available at the McMorran Arena Box Office starting at just $7 for seniors, students and military. For more information, contact the Fighting Falcons office at (810) 966-3800.
