April 25, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release
FLINT, MI -The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League and 2013-14 regular-season champions of the North Division, look to keep their hopes for the Robertson Cup alive as they face elimination in game three of the North Division Finals against the Michigan Warriors tonight at 7 p.m.
The Warriors hold a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series, after holding the Fighting Falcons scoreless in games one and two last week at McMorran Arena. A Fighting Falcons win tonight would force game four, tomorrow night at Perani Arena in Flint at 7 p.m.
Port Huron has yet to score in the North Division Finals, as they were shut out for the first time this season in a three-overtime 1-0 classic last Friday, and again in a 3-0 loss the following night. Michigan goalie Trevor Gorsuch has stopped all 83 shots the Fighting Falcons have fired his way through the first two games of the season.
Alex Blankenburg will make his second start of the series tonight, after making a Fighting Falcons franchise-record 51 saves in game one. The second-year netminder trails only his Warriors counterpart Gorsuch in goals against average (1.37) and save percentage (0.955) among NAHL playoff goalies.
Fighting Falcons captain Bryan Yim, who set a new franchise record with 50 points on 20 goals and 30 assists in the regular season, leads the way with four points on a goal and three assists in the playoffs.
The Warriors are led by Colin Larkin, who has six points on three goals and three assists, and has scored a point in each of Michigan's five playoff games. Larkin's goal on the 107th shot of the night ended last Friday's game one.
The Fighting Falcons won just once in six games in Flint this season, but all six games were decided by just one goal, and four went to overtime or later. If the team wins Friday and Saturday, game five would take place Sunday at 3 p.m. at McMorran Arena. The box office would open at 11 a.m. for game five Sunday.
