Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release
PORT HURON, MI -The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League and 2013-14 regular-season champions of the North Division, find themselves in a 2-0 deficit after dropping games one and two of the North Division Finals to the Michigan Warriors Friday and Saturday at McMorran Arena. The series shifts to Flint for game three this Friday at 7 p.m.
Friday's game one was an instant classic that featured two of the best goaltending performances any crowd at McMorran Arena has ever seen. In the first three-overtime game in downtown Port Huron in over 14 years, the Warriors earned a 1-0 win on the game's 107th shot.
Warriors goalie Trevor Gorsuch stopped all 55 Fighting Falcons shots to hand the team their first shutout loss of the season after Port Huron was one of just a handful of NAHL teams to score in all 60 regular-season games.
Alex Blankenburg made a Fighting Falcons franchise-record 51 saves in a losing effort as Colin Larkin's goal 5:37 into the third overtime period ended the game.
The Fighting Falcons outshot the Warriors 55-52 in the game, but the Warriors had a 15-7 edge over the last two overtime periods.
Gorsuch turned in another gem Saturday night, shutting out the Fighting Falcons for the second straight game in a 3-0 win. Tyler Groat scored twice for Michigan, and TJ Stuntz added an empty-netter to seal the game two victory.
Max Milosek turned away 27 of the 29 shots he faced, but Port Huron's offense was unable to score at the other end.
Gorsuch has stopped all 83 Fighting Falcons shots through two games, and has helped hold Port Huron scoreless in 10 power play opportunities. He leads all playoff goalies with a 0.87 goals against average and a 0.972 save percentage through the first five games of the 2014 Robertson Cup Playoffs.
The Fighting Falcons find themselves facing elimination in a must-win game three this Friday at Flint's Perani Arena at 7 p.m. A win would force a game four the following night at 7 p.m., and, if necessary, game five would take place at McMorran Arena on Sunday at 3 p.m.
