Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release
PORT HURON, MI -The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League and 2013-14 regular-season champions of the North Division, will take on the Michigan Warriors in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Robertson Cup Playoffs. Games one and two are set for this Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at McMorran Arena.
The Fighting Falcons swept the Johnstown Tomahawks in the first round of the playoffs, with a 4-3 win in the series-clinching game three last Friday. The Warriors completed a sweep of their own the same night with a 3-2 win over the Janesville Jets.
The Warriors were the toughest opponent for the Fighting Falcons this season, as Port Huron went just 4-4-4 in 12 regular-season matchups. Michigan went 8-3-1 in the season series, and never lost back-to-back games to Port Huron.
These teams faced off four times in March, with each team taking a pair of victories. With both of the Warriors' wins coming in overtime or later, the Fighting Falcons managed six of eight possible points. Michigan has just one regulation win in five games against Port Huron in 2014.
Three of Michigan's eight wins over Port Huron came in the shootout, a part of the game that does not exist in the playoffs. Despite winning eight of 12 games, the Warriors only outscored the Fighting Falcons by three goals, 37-34.
Port Huron has excelled in close games this season, with an NAHL-best 50 points in games decided by one goal in the regular season and the first round of the playoffs. One of every three Fighting Falcons games this season has been decided in overtime or later, the highest mark in the North Division.
Bryce VanHorn (4G, 4A) and Bryan Yim (2G, 6A) lead active Fighting Falcons with eight points against the Warriors this year. Colin Larkin (5G, 4A) and Zach Szajner (4G, 5A) tallied nine points each for Michigan.
The Fighting Falcons enter Friday's game riding a franchise-record ten-game home winning streak. The team has not lost at McMorran Arena since February 1, outscoring their opponents 24-7 in that stretch.
Tickets to the North Division Finals are available now at the McMorran Arena Box Office, starting at just $8 for seniors, students and military. A limited number of 10-seat VIP Suites are also available for $140. For more information, contact the Fighting Falcons front office at (810) 966-3800.
