Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release
PORT HURON, MI -The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, 2013-14 regular-season champions of the North Division, announced today that the organization will not return to McMorran Arena for the 2014-15 North American Hockey League season. The franchise, owned by Maribeth Hayes' Hat Trick Hockey will relocate to Connellsville, PA, continuing NAHL play as the Keystone Ice Miners.
"We're saddened to announce that we will not be returning to Port Huron for a fifth season," said Fighting Falcons owner Maribeth Hayes. "On behalf of the entire organization, I'd like to thank all of the sponsors, host families, off-ice volunteers and of course the fans who supported us through four great seasons at McMorran Arena. It takes a great hockey community to make a team like this possible, and we were privileged to call Port Huron home.
"We're glad to have the opportunity to continue to offer our players the opportunity to follow their dreams of playing college hockey with the Ice Miners in Connellsville," Hayes said. "There is no greater moment for any of us than when one of our players signs a commitment to play college hockey, and in Connellsville, we'll be able to keep preparing these great young players for the next level."
"We know that the great fans in Port Huron will be very disappointed that we must leave the Blue Water Area, and I truly hope that another team will support this deserving community in the near future," Hayes said.
Tryout camps the organization had planned for this summer in Fraser, MI will go on as scheduled, as participating players will compete for spots on the new Keystone Ice Miners.
