Bulls Double Lone Star Brahmas 4-2

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - The Amarillo Bulls took over sole possession of first place in the South Division on Tuesday night with a 4-2 triumph over the Lone Star Brahmas at NYTEX Center in North Richland Hills.

The Bulls used one of their many games in hand and moved two points ahead of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. Joe Grabowski, Mike Davis, Brendan McGuire and Tyler Gernhofer tallied for Amarillo. Collin Delia turned aside 21 of 23 shots he faced to post the victory in goal. Delia's shutout string lasted more than 84 minutes until the Brahmas scored in the second period.

After killing off a 5 on 3, the Bulls got their offense going thanks to their own power play. Joe Grabowski's point shot was tipped in by Michael Davis to make it 1-0 at the 13:27 mark. Brett Szajner also added an assist on the play. Just before the end of the stanza, the Bulls struck again. Roman Ammirato led a 3 on 1 break up the ice and made a terrific pass over to Brendan McGuire who put it on the top shelf. The Bulls outshot the Brahmas 7-4 in the first period.

The Brahmas tied the game with two goals in the middle stanza. The first was fueled off a 3 on 2 break up the ice and the second was off a play inside the Bulls zone. Amarillo had their chances in the middle stanza but were turned away by Jacob Nehama. Each team had eight shots on goal in the second.

Special teams propelled the Bulls to the lead when it matter most. Joe Grabowski gave Amarillo a

3-2 lead on the power play when his blast found the net from Brady Ferguson and Mike Davis at 4:43.

The Bulls spent much of the third period penalty killing did a tremendous job of blocking pucks and preventing the Brahmas from tying the game. In the final minute, Lone Star pulled its goaltender looking for the equalizer but failed to score. Tyler Gernhofer rounded out the scoring for the Bulls when he fired the puck into the empty net.

The Amarillo Bulls were outshot by the Lone Star Brahmas 23-22, including 11-7 in the third period. There were 11 power plays between the two teams with the Bulls scoring twice on five attempts.

The two game series between the Bulls and Brahmas closes out tomorrow (Wednesday) night at 7:30 pm at NYTEX Center in North Richland Hills.
