
Fightin Phils Homer Their Way to Win Over Goats

Reading, PA- The Reading Fightin Phils hit three home runs on Saturday evening to defeat the Hartford Yard Goats 8-3 at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. Nick Podkul hit a three-run homer, and Carlos De La Cruz and Jhailyn Ortiz each hit two-run homers as the Fightins beat the Yard Goats for the third time in five games. Niko Decolati had two hits, and Drew Romo had an RBI double for the Yard Goats who conclude a six-game road trip tomorrow.
Reading scored the first run of the game in the first inning off Hartford starter Nick Garcia. The Fightins loaded the bases on a single, error and hit batsman and Madison Stokes scored on an infield grounder by Jhailyn Ortiz to make it 1-0.
The Yard Goats tied the game in the second inning with a two-out rally. Jack Blomgren walked and Drew Romo cracked a double down the left field line and Blomgren scored from first base and tied the game at 1-1.
The Fightins took a 4-1 lead in the third inning on their first of three home runs. Johan Rojas was hit by a pitch, Jhailyn Ortiz singled, and Nick Podkul batted in a first and second situation with one out. Podkul cranked a home run over the left field fence, his seventh of the season, giving Reading a three-run lead.
Reading added two runs in the fourth inning as Carlos De La Cruz cranked a two-run homer to make it 6-1. The Yard Goats closed the gap to 6-3 with two runs in the sixth inning. Nick Decolai scored on Bladimir Restituyo's groundout, and Hunter Goodman scored on a single by Colin Simpson. However, the Fightins made it 8-3 as Ortiz smashed a two-run homer in the sixth inning in his first game since returning from Triple-A.
The Yard Goats conclude their road trip against the Reading Fightin Phils Sunday night (5:15 PM) at FirstEnergy Stadium. RHP Gabriel Hughes will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Victor Vargas. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410, FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app. The Yard Goats return home to Dunkin' Park next Tuesday (7:10 PM) to host the Erie SeaWolves.
