Teahema played collegiately at LSU before transferring to Southeastern Louisiana. At LSU, he started 21 games, splitting time between both guard positions and right tackle. He was named a 2015 True Freshman All-America by ESPN.com He played in 11 games at Southeastern before declaring for the draft in December 2017.

"Protecting ours and pressuring theirs is the name of the game. Re-signing Maea, a First Team All League player in 2021 who I watched dominate first hand last season is a calming feeling for our offense," said Head Coach Billy Back.
