Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas- The bottom of the fifth inning doomed the Edinburg Coyotes as they lost to the San Angelo Colts 8-3 Wednesday night at Foster Field.

John Maschino (3-5) picked his fifth loss of the year after giving up six runs on four hits. Five of those runs were in the bottom of the fifth inning. It is the second time this season that the Colts have had a big inning against the right hander.

The first two hitters the Coyotes (31-37) sent to the plate in the first inning hit a double down the first base line. The double by Alex Entrekin brought Angelo Fermin in to score which gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, Andres Rodriguez tied the game for the Colts (42-25) at 1-1 with his 14th home run of the season.

But the Coyotes broke the tie in the top of the third inning again off the bat of Entrekin. Robert Matlock started the inning with an infield single and then moved to second on an error by Colts shortstop Charley Belew. With one out, Entrekin hit a double into the right field gap that scored Matlock from second and gave the Coyotes a 2-1 lead.

The Coyotes extended their lead to 3-1 when Amado German hit a fielder's choice to second base which allowed Eric Gonzalez to score from third.

What looked like a promising start for the Coyotes quickly turned bad in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Colts sent 12 hitters to the plate and scored six runs to which made the score 7-3. The Coyotes' pitching staff allowed seven walks in the inning compared to only two hits. Rodriguez had one of those two hits of the inning which was his second home run of the game. The Colts added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning with a bases loaded walk by Belew which made the score 8-3.

The Coyotes and Colts will play a double header Thursday night at Foster Field. The two teams will play two seven inning games with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. The Coyotes will send ace Eric Montoya and James Mondesir in the double header. The double header was scheduled to make up the games that were rained out from the July 4th weekend.
