Broncos Score Early and Often to Beat WhiteWings

Harlingen, TX - The Laredo Broncos (34-39) scored in every inning from the second through the fifth to beat the Harlingen WhiteWings (18-51) 7-5 tonight at Harlingen Field.

The Broncos struck against Todd Lutz (2-6) in the second. Dwayne White led off with a single and stole second. Two outs later he scored on a single by Ben Tinius, making it 1-0.

In the third, Sean Gamble led off with a double. Ivan Reyes hit a grounder to short, but the throw pulled Trey Hendricks off the bag, allowing Reyes to reach as Gamble moved to third. Luany Sanchez followed by grounding into an RBI-fielder's choice to make it 2-0.

In the bottom of the inning against Andy Schon (8-3), though, Carl Johnson hit a lead off single. Two outs later Amadeo Zazueta hit his third home run of the season to tie the game 2-2.

In the fourth, Matt Imwalle led off with his second home run of the season. Two batters later, Gamble singled and Reyes hit his 11th home run to make it 5-2.

With two outs in the fifth, Arnoldo Ponce single and Imwalle followed with an RBI-triple to make it 6-2.

The WhiteWings sent eight ment to the plate in the bottom of the inning. With one out, Johnson doubled and David Fowler walked. With two outs, Zazueta hit an RBI-single. David Cardona reached on an error, allowing a run to score. Ryan Fox followed with an RBI-double to make it 6-5.

White led off the seventh with a walk against Justin Staatz and stole second. One out later, Imwalle hit an RBI-double to make it 7-5.

The WhiteWings and Broncos play game two of this three-game series tomorrow night at 7:05. Left-hander Bryan Herrera (0-2) will face left-hander Sean Donlin (2-4). It will be the second of nine-straight free home games to close out the season.
