
Fife Named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs' right-handed pitcher Stephen Fife has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the Eastern League's final week of the 2010 season; August 30th through September 6th.
Fife made two starts for the Sea Dogs during the week producing a 2-0 record with a 1.64 ERA and seven strikeouts. In Fife's first start of the week on August 31st against the Binghamton Mets, he took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Fife wound up tossing six shutout allowing only three base runners; two hits and a hit batter. He struck out five to earn the win in a 6-0 Portland victory. In his final start of the season on September 5th, Fife allowed two runs on just three hits in five innings of work to earn his second win of the week as Portland defeated New Hampshire.
The 23 year-old, Fife notched an 8-6 record with a 4.75 ERA in 26 starts for the Sea Dogs in 2010. He had a team high eight wins and led the team in innings pitched with 136.1. He was selected to the 2010 Eastern League All-Star Game in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The Boise, Idaho native is rated by Baseball America as the #17 prospect in the Red Sox organization. Fife was selected by the Red Sox in the third round (85th overall) in the June 2008 First-Year Player Draft.
Fife is the first Sea Dogs' pitcher to be honored as the Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week since Kris Johnson for the week of April 21st through April 27th, 2008. Ryan Lavarnway and Anthony Rizzo were tabbed with Eastern League Player of the Week honors earlier this season; Lavarnway for the week of August 23rd through August 29th and Rizzo for the week of August 2nd through August 8th.
The Portland Sea Dogs concluded the 2010 season on Monday with a 70-71 record to finish in third place in the Eastern Division. The Sea Dogs will open the 2011 season on Thursday, April 7th at 6:00 PM against the Reading Phillies. Individual tickets for the 2011 season will go on sale at the Hadlock Field Ticket Office at 9:00 AM on Saturday, November 6th.
The Sea Dogs are the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox and are Maine's most affordable professional sports entertainment. The Sea Dogs Souvenir Store is open year round.
