The tough road trip continued for the SeaWolves on Saturday night at The Diamond as they dropped the middle game of the series to the Richmond Flying Squirrels 5-2.

Richmond jumped ahead in the last of the first against Erie starter Victor Larez. Adam Duvall singled with two outs and Mark Minicozzi put the Squirrels on the board with a two-run home run to left for a 2-0 lead.

Erie cut into the lead in the fourth against Richmond starter Taylor Rogers. Eugenio Suarez led off and was hit by a pitch. He stole second and scored on a Daniel Fields RBI double making it 2-1. Erie would get no closer.

In the fifth, Richmond tacked on two more runs, knocking Larez out of the game. Javier Herrera led off with a double and he was tripled home Joe Panik. Panik scored on a Duvall knock making it 4-1.

In the sixth, the Flying Squirrels added to the lead off of reliever Tyler Clark. Ehire Adrianza led off with a walk, stole second and moved to third on a Ryan Lollis bunt. Herrera singled home Adrianza for a 5-1 lead.

In the eighth, the SeaWolves threatened but only came away with a run. Suarez singled with one out and moved into scoring position on a Hernan Perez knock. Fields doubled home Suarez making it 5-2. Squirrels reliever Edwin Quiarte came in and retired the final hitter of the eighth and worked a perfect ninth to save the game for Richmond.

Larez (5-2) allowed four runs on eight hits with a walk and three strikeouts in a season-low 4.1 innings of work.

Erie looks to avoid the sweep on Sunday afternoon at The Diamond at 2:05 p.m. LHP Kyle Lobstein (5-3, 3.07 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Chris Gloor (4-1, 4.29 ERA).
