Lake County Fielders News Release
ZION, Ill. - The Lake County Fielders (36-48) shutout the Schaumburg Flyers (32-51) in a 3-0 victory on Vegas Night at Fielders Stadium on Thursday night.
The Fielders came up big with three doubles in their half of the fifth after Dustin Glant had retired ten straight Lake County batters. The Fielders scored two runs after Jeff Dunbar led off the inning with his 16th double of the season. Then Anthony Esquer followed it up with an RBI double of his own and was advanced to third on a Kyle Higgins' groundout to the second baseman. Guillermo Martinez struck out and Juan Valdes delivered the third double of the inning to plate Esquer before Amos Ramon was retired on a 4-3 groundout.
Lake County added one in the bottom of the eighth off three hits. Valdes drew a lead off walk, Amos Ramon singled and Josh Short came up with an RBI single chasing Dustin Glant from the game. Brian McFall hit a single to load the bases, but Tom Lyons came in from the bullpen was able to retire Adam Hale and Jeff Dunbar hit into a double play to end the Fielders' threat.
Roberto Feliciano pitched well in his debut to earn his first win in a Fielders' jersey. He retired the first nine batters he faced before giving up a lead off walk to Travis Brown and a bunt single to Ruddy Yan in the top of the fourth. Brown was caught stealing by Esquer and Feliciano retired the next two batters to end the threat.
Schaumburg put two runners on the path again in the fifth but were unable to push a run across as Feliciano retired the next three Schaumburg batters.
Feliciano threw strong for five innings, surrendering only two hits while striking out four batters. The starter got a lot of support from the bullpen who gave up only three hits in the remainder of the game. Closer Marco Gonzalez earned his second save in as many days to preserve the Fielders 3-0 victory.
The Fielders look for another win tomorrow on a Sports Physical Therapy and Rehab Specialists Fireworks Night. Lake County will send John Brownell to the mound opposite Aaron Quinn.
