Lake County Fielders News Release

The Lake County Fielders were able to sweep the Winnipeg Goldeyes after dropping them in the series finale and final game at the temporary home of the Lake County Fielders at Carthage College in Kenosha.

Action started right away as Winnipeg left the bases loaded in their half of the 1st inning after Garry Bakker gave up two hits and a walk - working his way out of the jam.

In the bottom of the inning, Brandon Anderson led off with his first triple of the year off Goldeye starter Stephen Flake. Amos Ramon's sacrifice fly gave Lake County a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Jeff Dunbar led off the inning with his fourth home run of the year giving the Fielders a 2-0 lead. That was followed by consecutive singles from Anthony Esquer, Kyle Higgins, and Joseph Ramos and a walk from Flake to Anderson, walking in a run, which was then followed by a Amos Ramon single, scoring two runs.

The Goldeyes were able to answer with three runs in the third inning. They also added another in the fourth after Wes Long singled in a run.

Joshua Short hit his 12th home run of the year in the bottom of the 5th inning.

In the 6th, the Goldeyes plated two more runs, and took the lead 6-5 after Wes Long hit a ground ball scoring Price Kendall.

Ryan Falcon came into relieve Lake County starter Garry Bakker who threw five and two thirds innings, gave up 12 hits, six earned runs, three walks, and struck out six. Falcon struck out Justice to end the 6th.

With two outs in the top of the 7th inning, Luis Alen singled and Price Kendall came up and smacked his 1st home run of the season giving the lead back to the Goldeyes.

The Fielders were able to regain the lead after the 7th inning stretch; Amos Ramon singled, Josh Short singled, and Brian McFall continued to swing the hot bat as he crushed his 3rd home run of the season deep to left field.

The bullpen was able to hold the Goldeyes in the 8th and 9th innings to get their first four game win streak in franchise history.

The Fielders will open up their new stadium in Zion on Friday afternoon at 4:45pm as they take on the Gary SouthShore RailCats.
