Fielders Drop Final Game in Yuma

Yuma, AZ-July 22, 2011-The Fielders dropped the rubber match of their five game series Friday night in Yuma losing 8-2 to the Scorpions.

All of the Fielders offense came in the first inning thanks to a two run homerun off the bat of Maikel Jova which also brought in John Dziomba who reached on an error to start the inning. The homerun was Jova's first of the season.

In the bottom of the third the Scorpions started to fight back as Carols Leon, Jose Canseco, and Willy Aybar loaded the bases for Jared McDonald who took advantage of the situation hitting a two run single to tie the game.

The Fielders had a chance in the fourth when Brad Payne stepped up to the plate with runners in scoring position and singled up the middle, but Franklyn Lopez was gunned down at home by center fielder Joey Gathright to halt the scoring threat. The Scorpions would open up the game in the bottom of the seventh, led again by another Jared McDonald two run single. The Fielders brought in reliever Jesus Gomez, who balked and allowed the runner to advance to third. First baseman Mark Samuelson had a chance to end the inning with a foul pop fly, but he dropped it allowing the inning to continue. A few pitches later, Gomez balked for the second time, which allowed the runner at third to score. The Scorpions added another insurance run in the eighth giving them the 8-2 lead and the eventual win.

Starting pitcher Julio Medina pitched six solid innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. He would took the loss, his first of the season.
