Field Set for Hometrust Bank Home Run Derby

ASHEVILLE, NC-- One of the many attractions of this year's South Atlantic League All-Star Game presented by Ingles is the HomeTrust Bank Home Run Derby. Headlining the long-ball event will be former Colorado Rockies and Atlanta Braves slugger Vinny Castilla; who will be hitting along-side the top Home Run hitters in the South Atlantic League during the event. The two-time MLB All-Star began his time in the major leagues with the Braves, before exploding onto the scene with the Rockies in the mid 90's.
In 1998, Castilla finished 11th in the MVP race while recording career highs in Home Runs (46), RBI (144), and Games Played (162). Currently, Castilla resides in Littleton, Colorado and serves as the Colorado Rockies Special Assistant to the General Manager. Castilla finished his Major League career with 320 Home Runs.
Joining Castilla in the HomeTrust Bank Home Run Derby will be Lexington's Ryan O'Hearn, who leads the South Atlantic League in Home Runs with 16. Greensboro's Austen Smith (11 Home Runs), Lakewood's Rhys Hoskins (9 Home Runs), and Delmarva's Conor Bierfeldt (7 Home Runs) round out the field.
The four participants will receive ten swings per round with the lowest Home Run total being eliminated after each round. Castilla will participate in all three rounds however he is not eligible to win the competition. In the event of a tie, each player tied will take an additional three swings until the tie is broken.
For each Home Run hit during the derby, HomeTrust Bank will donate $100 to Children First/Communities in Schools Charity. They will donate $200 for each Home Run Vinny Castilla hits. A check presentation ceremony will directly follow the competition.
This year's South Atlantic League Home Trust Home Run Derby will begin at 5:30pm on Tuesday, June 23. A ticket to the All-Star game presented by Ingles grants fans access to the ballpark when the gates open at 3:00pm. A very limited number of tickets are still available.
